As a follow-up from the feature where you can now refer to replies in links, the issue arises about what would happen if a post was deleted in the middle of a thread?

For example, if you refer to reply #30, and someone deletes reply #20, then reply #30 is now reply #29.

Also, it is annoying when people delete their own posts after asking a question, and getting an answer. Then the answer doesn't make any sense without the question there.

To minimize the impact of these scenarios, you can no longer delete old posts. An "old post" is one which is more than one day old. This is to allow a post made in error to be removed, if you do so promptly.

If you really want to delete one of your old posts (eg. it might contain insulting or confidential information) you can edit it, and replace the entire post with something like "post deleted". This however will still preserve the reply numbers, in case people want to refer to posts further down the reply chain than yours.
