| ok, i have a website running on a dedicated server, is it possible to, after uploading the mud program, to have a webpage on the air or something constantly running the mud (smaug.exe) so that people can connect through my site isntead of my ip?
im betting i would probably use <applet ... > but i cant find a .class file for it anywhere, i was thinking maybe i would have to <!--#include file="smaug.exe"> with it and have a java applet connection to (mysite):4000 or something, any ideas? | | Top |

| Not totally sure what you mean, but if you mean via the web server, rather than directly, I think the answer would be "no".
Even if your "include" idea worked, everyone would have their own copy of smaug, and they would be the only player on it.
You need to set up a central one somewhere. |

| what kind of a site do you have? I mean, if you have the right kind, then you can. Since thats what all muds do.
youre going to have to give us some more information before we can say one way or the other with any certainty. |

| | i have a site registered with admin.1and1.com, 1 gig of space for $10 a month, the site is http://microdyminsion.com.. and i've uploaded all the mud files as http://microdyminsion.com/smaug/ the site is on 1and1's dedicated server and i was hoping i could run the mud as like microdyminsion.com:4000 or something if that were possible. | | Top |

| | It is hard to tell from their site, but for $10/month I guess they are offering their web server, not to let you run your own MUD server. You probably need to go to a site that lets you run servers (a MUD host for instance). These sites also tend to throw in web hosting as well as part of the package. |

| One of their deals is linux hosting... If thats your package that you have, then yes, you can host Smaug. I don't think any other package will host a MUD.
I just noticed. You want to try to "embed" the Windows Smaug in the website? Eh, I don't think thats possible. |
