| I think this is just the way the server works.
Rather than specifying an object level in the area editor (or area file) the server randomly selects a level for objects which are within a few levels of the current area.
This stops you putting a level 40 object in an area for newbies.
I don't think there is an easy way of changing that (short of recompiling the server) unless anyone else knows of it.

| The variance is five levels on stock Smaug. It is possible to change it so that the items keep the level they were set to.
There are snippets released for that by more than one coder. If you wish to do this, you could start by checking out Xerves' site http://www.rafermand.com/infocenter/

| I cannot see in the SMAUG source code where it loads an object's level. If you can tell me which number in the area file is the level I should be able to help you.
(This is why I said the level was automatic). |
