My Friend's MUSHclient has an issue with quotes

I've been using MUSHclient forever without any issue.

My friend recently downloaded MUSHclient on a Windows8 (I think) machine.

I've no idea what they've done, I'm hoping that someone more experienced might know.

They think that MUSHclient has completely broken their character-bit forever.

The place I logged on with it is permanently borked. As in: Nec says, "Test.""

To get that they typed "Test."

Is there a way to fix this? I'm presuming they accidentally toggled a setting they shouldn't have or something?

Thanks.

This sounds like an MXP issue. When using MXP (Mud Extension Protocol) things like quotes (") are turned into "

To be seeing the word """ means that the client and server are not in agreement. The client thinks that MXP is off, and the server thinks it is on.

Go to the world configuration -> "MXP / Pueblo" tab.

It is normally set to "On command" which means the client switches to MXP recognition when it gets a telnet sequence that tells it to.

Some MUD developers may not have properly implemented the negotiation sequence. You could try setting it to "Yes - always".

Thanks very much for the prompt reply. My friend says that they'll try it out later. Hopefully it will work.
