Hello!

I have the excellent chat redirector plugin for use with Discworld MUD, and I've got it set for my guild chat, tells and so on.
In DW you can be emoted to (where someone might perform an action to you in the same room where everyone will see it) or remoted to, where the action is private between you and the person who you name.

Example:

: grins = '[character name] grins

remote [character name] waves to you = would display to you the typer: You remote to [character name]: [Your character name waves to you].
The receiver would get [Sender's character name] waves to you.]

So my question is, the emotes and remotes appear in my main window with everything else, so as I move rooms they scroll up at quite a rate and I'll miss them. Is there a way to pick those entries out and put them across into my chat redirector either with that plug in script specifically or through Mushclient's built in stuff?

Things that characters send to you normally (hug Emily) for example, would show up white along with everything else, whereas for me the remoted text shows up cyan.

I'd like to not miss these things!

Thanks.

Woki

I think there have been a few versions of that. Can you post a link to the exact one you are using (the exact reply, if possible, each reply has a link built into it), or at least mention the reply number.

Over time I've come to realize that a "chat window" should always just be a "window" that you can copy arbitrary messages to, which you then couple with triggers or other scripts that capture whatever you want to capture.

For your goal, I would do something akin to what I suggest here:

I'm having trouble finding the specific page with it on. I'm looking hard for it. Failing that, would you like me to paste the plug in text file into this thread?

Running with Fiendish's idea, I've modified what I think is the correct plugin to incorporate it.

Template:saveplugin=Generic_Chat_Miniwindow To save and install the Generic_Chat_Miniwindow plugin do this:
 1. Copy between the lines below (to the Clipboard)
 2. Open a text editor (such as Notepad) and paste the plugin into it
 3. Save to disk on your PC, preferably in your plugins directory, as Generic_Chat_Miniwindow.xml
 4. Go to the MUSHclient File menu -> Plugins
 5. Click "Add"
 6. Choose the file Generic_Chat_Miniwindow.xml (which you just saved in step 3) as a plugin
 7. Click "Close"

</muclient>

Note you can RH click the window for options.

I have removed all triggers from the plugin, so by default it won't display anything.

Now, make whatever triggers you want in your main world file, for example like this:

<triggers>
 <trigger
 enabled="y"
 match="You say '*'"
 omit_from_output="y"
 script="chattrigger"
 sequence="100"
 >
 </trigger>
</triggers>

That calls the chattrigger function, which you need to have in your main world script file. It also omits the line from output (you can choose to display it in the chat plugin).

In your main world script file put this function:

function chattrigger (name, line, wildcards, styles)
 require "serialize"
 check (CallPlugin ("10778718503f0c91106745f5", "display", serialize.save_simple (styles)))
end -- chattrigger

That serializes the style runs into a text string which the chat plugin de-serializes and displays.

That one function can be shared between all code that wants to display text in the chat window (ie. lots of triggers).

The plug-in I am using is yours from here: http://www.gammon.com.au/forum/?id=7991

I'll give this a go and see what happens. You are crazily fast!

Where abouts would I put

function chattrigger (name, line, wildcards, styles)
require "serialize"
check (CallPlugin ("10778718503f0c91106745f5", "display", serialize.save_simple (styles)))
end -- chattrigger

in the main scripts part of the file? I've found where the trigger.

No. Assuming you want to pick up triggers from your main world file (where they are easy to create) you need a main script file. You can create one directly from the world configuration -> Scripts dialog, or just make your own file. Paste those four lines into a blank file, save as "world_script.lua" or some similar name, and then select that as the External Script File in the scripts configuration.

The one I posted above is more sophisticated as it lets you drag, resize and so on. Thanks to Fiendish. :)

I'm sorry I'm such a newb at this.
I made the world_script.lua file, should that first section go in there also?
The file that I assume is the world configuration file is an mcl called Discworld MUD, and in there there is all sorts.

You have three files.

Following the instructions above "To save and install the Generic_Chat_Miniwindow plugin do this: ".

That gives you the plugin (which should be installed if you follow the instructions).

Then make another file as I described above and put those four lines in it. That file becomes your "world script file".

Then make triggers as needed.

If this is confusing see my video about scripting basics:

I mean... so does a world file.

Ok, I do have 3 files, the plugin file, the world script file with those 4 lines in it and MUD config file, (which has existing triggers and I'm modifying to add the additional triggers.)
My main issue at the moment is getting the triggers to pick up what I'm doing. I've found the script for chat redirector and I've even copied those straight across.
I'm also getting an error on any message from my guild and any tell:

'Trigger function "chattrigger" not found or had a previous error.'

<trigger

enabled="y"

ignore_case="y"

match="(^)(\[(.*)\]|\(thieves\)) (.*)$"

regexp="y"

script="chattrigger"

sequence="60"
>

</trigger>

I am assuming chattrigger here should be the actual plugin file name.

Can you take a screenshot of your world configuration -> Scripting window please?

No, you don't need to change the plugin file name.

Ok. I removed the changes I had made and re-entered the triggers. It seems to work now, most wonderfully!
I just need to figure out how to move the remotes across as well. Mine appear as cyan (colour) but that's everything. If a pet of yours does an action and it comes up cyan I imagine it'll copy everything. For some reason emotes to me appear white as well. Is it possible to shift that over too? I'm looking for a way to pick out that stuff.

The colours should be retained, that is the whole point of using the style runs.

Can you paste a trigger that isn't working (like an emote)?

Use this method:

Template:copying For advice on how to copy aliases, timers or triggers from within MUSHclient, and paste them into a forum message, please see Copying XML.
