Dumb New User - commands not appearing in output window

I apologise to all the old hands, but I'm stumped.

Commands I type do not appear in my output window, and I'm used to seeing them in other clients. Can this be done please?

The default is for commands to be echoed, see the world configuration screen -> Input -> Commands section.

Right at the top the checkbox "Echo my input" should be checked.

However in some cases MUDs send an "echo off" message when asking for a password, and for some reason, don't turn echoing back on. You can work around this by checking "Ignore 'Echo Off' Message" on the same configuration dialog.

Or, if you are already logged in go to the Display menu and uncheck "No Command Echo" which fixes the lack of echo up for this particular moment.

I would be interested to know which MUD(s) has this problem - stopping command echoing and not restarting it. Maybe the code for detecting when echo should be turned back on needs revision.

Thanks for a rapid reply. Unfortunately, input / echo settings are as you advised, but no joy. Not a "black on black" font problem either. I do not get a blank line when I hit enter indicating that text is there but cannot be seen.

MUD is Discworld

These are straight commands? Not aliases or anything? And they are being sent and acted on? But just not echoed?

Did you change the "Ignore 'Echo Off' message" checkbox. The default is unchecked. Perhaps close that world and reconnect now.

Also, do you have any plugins installed that might be affecting things?

ok, said I was dumb.

Removed all (6) plugins and lo and behold, missing text appeared. Will invetigate further by re-applying plugins individually and see when it disappears.

That's not dumb. Plugins shouldn't suppress what you type, unless you installed some sort of "supress my typing" plugin <grin>.

While you were typing that I connected to Discworld OK with default settings.

It is possible for a plugin to suppress typing by having a "catch-all" alias that has something like "echo alias" unchecked and "omit from output" checked.
