hi, i just interested in making my own mud. i just want to translate ingame language of smaug. should i compile server or may i translate one which already compiled.

You will need to both translate the strings in the server code (and then recompile) and all of the areas. However there are many complications with this approach. I suggest you search the forums for "translate" or "multi-lingual" to see several discussions about this issue and the complexity that arises.

No, the SMAUG license does not allow for commercial use. Even after translation, it still must follow the original license.

what about after translate may i use smaug as my server ? (as my own server) without any earnings(non commercial) just free to play for others?

Yes, you can use it for non-commercial purposes after translation. In fact, that is what almost everybody does: they take the server, modify it somehow, and then put it up for free play.

i've got 1 more question. asking it here. i use smaug 1.4 but as i see there are some other versions like smaugfuss 1.9 etc. Is 1.4 is too bad to use, should i change it to fuss 1.9 or should i keep using 1.4? can someone tell me the difference?

I would suggest the latest SmaugFUSS. It has bugfixes, etc.
