Changing the opening greeting so it display's my mud's name instead of Smaug? cant seem to find it...

I think that's in the help files, like the "greeting" help file. The exact name might depend on what version of SMAUG you're running. You can edit it online using the help edit commands (hedit I think).

I know you can change help files online but where is the directory where all the help files are stored? Id love to just edit the text rather than doin it on telnet.

Yup, that'd be the file, and the directory it's in is area. All the help "files" are stored in that one file, just watch your tildes (~). ;)
