Are there any snippets for smaugfuss that allow people to have to sign up for an account before they can create a character?

I was wanting to have them have to create an account first and then be able to create characters afterwards.

I searched but didn't come up with anything.

I've never seen a snippet, and it probably wouldn't be exactly easy/quick to code either.

I believe you can find it in FEAR 2.x You'd have to extract it and change things around a bit to get it to work though...

Short of downloading that code base and taking what you need from it, I don't know of a way to get it (other than coding it from scratch)

What exactly are you trying to achieve with an account system? My MUD had one installed not too long before I became coder, and I am not convinced it has been helpful. If it's to control players by centralizing their characters, well, if they want to do something wrong they'll just create another account with hotmail or something. Unless there's a beneficial reason for them to have an account, it'll just be an annoyance for them. Some might not even try the game because they don't want to go to the trouble of creating the account, or don't even want to give out their email address in the first place.

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of World of Warcraft and how they have accounts. I see what your saying about losing some players just for that fact. I'll look into it more later.

I have another ideas I"ll post about.

They have accounts because you pay, and then a particular character is part of that paid account. If you aren't charging, it might not be relevant.
